EDIE is an immersive workshop facilitated by Dementia Australia that enables participants to see the world through the eyes of a person living with dementia. Utilising virtual reality technology, the workshop enhances participants knowledge of dementia whilst exploring enablement strategies to support a person with dementia to live more confidently.

Recently over 90% of our care team at Andrew Kerr Care undertook EDIE further demonstrating our commitment to our residents living, community and care moments. Staff from all areas of our organisation including our kitchen, laundry, administration and our care staff attended this intensive workshop.

All staff reported the content was extremely relevant and useful in understanding the needs of people living with dementia in our care.

“Our team’s knowledge of dementia and their confidence to provide the best dementia care was increased as a result of this session. I am really proud of the commitment demonstrated by our team to continuous learning and education,” says Angelia Dixon, CEO at Andrew Kerr Care.

The knowledge gained included:

  1. Understanding a resident’s perspective of dementia
  2. Identifying support needs in partnership with the resident and their carer
  3. Developing a dementia support plan that focuses on enabling a person living with dementia

Dementia Australia’s Centre for Dementia Learning offers a wide range of courses and professional development programs for professionals working with and supporting people living with dementia.

Dementia Australia says that a dementia-friendly community is a place where people living with dementia are supported to live a high quality of life with meaning, purpose and value.
